GEM ENCRUSTED CANDLES (Part 2)

GEM ENCRUSTED CANDLES (part 2)
Step 3
Stand the prepared would on newspaper or in a roasting tray to catch any spills and protect your work surface.

Step 4
Using the thermometer, check the temperature of the wax. When it has reached 85c,pour the wax carefully into the mould.

Tips
If you dip the end of the wick in molten wax, It will be easier to thread and the finished candle will not need to have its wick dipped in wax to aid lighting.

Step 5
Allow the candle mould to stand a couple of minutes before taping with the scissors to release any air bubbles. Place he candle mould in a water bath and cover with a weight to hold it down, (wax, even in moulds, has a tendency to float).

Step 6
After about n hour, a depression will have formed in the centre of the mould. Poke the centre of the depression with a cocktail stick or a large pin to uncover any air pockets that may have formed before topping up with wax heated to 85c.

Step 7
When the candle has cooled completely, remove the mould sealer and pull the candle from the mould by the wick.

Step 8
Trim off any excess wick and smooth off the bottom of the candle by rubbing the base of the bottom of a warm pan.

Step 9
Place the finished candle on a cushion or wad of tissue to hold it steady and heat the blade of your knife.

Step 10
Place the hot knife on the candle with a gem on top of the hot knife. Slide out the knife to deposit the gem in a small poll of molten wax. The wax will cool almost immediately fixing the gem to the candle.

Step 11
Continue until you have completely covered your candle with gems. Wait at least a day for the candle to mature before lighting
